Mexican Heart sells a strong selection of the popular agave tequila. Traditionally, tequila is divided into five different categories or ages: Blanco/Plato, Reposado, Anejo, Extra Anejo and Joven.
At Mexican Heart, we focus primarily on importing genuine Mexican agave tequila, which must not be flavored. Both tequila blanco, tequila reposado and anejo tequila are genuine agave tequila, where you are sure to get a real premium tequila in your bar cabinet.

In order to use the name “Tequila” on a liquor bottle, it must originate from one of the five Mexican states where the blue agave plant is grown. The cornerstone for the production and distillation of any agave tequila. These five states are Jalisco, Nayarit, Guanajuato, Michoacan and Tamaulipas. There are still over 100 distilleries in Mexico, which together produce more than 900 different tequila brands. With Mexico’s long-standing tradition of producing top-quality agave spirits, it remains a very popular export that is exported to many parts of the world.
Tequila reposado
Tequila reposado is extracted from the legendary Mexican agave plant, and this tequila variety has its roots in Jalisco in the Mexican highlands. To use the agave plant for tequila production, the plant is harvested when fully ripe, then baked in stone ovens and left to ferment in open wooden vats before final distillation. A tequila reposado is aged from two months to a year, which helps develop the golden color of the tequila.

Tequila blanco
A tequila blanco is the original variant of tequila, and is a clear spirit that is unaged and less than sixty days old. The flavor of a tequila blanco can vary depending on the distillery and whether it is a 100% distillation from the agave plant. To make a tequila blanco more smooth and round in flavor, some distilleries choose to let the tequila rest in oak barrels for a maximum of thirty days. The raw material in tequila blanco is what can be extracted for other tequila varieties such as reposado and anejo.

Anejo tequila
Anejo is the Spanish word for ‘aged’ or ‘mature’ and it fits perfectly with anejo tequila, which is the tequila that is aged the longest in the barrel. The aging of an anejo tequila varies from one year up to three years, which is why anejo tequila is the tequila with the deepest golden glow in color. Within the segment of agave spirits, anejo tequila is a truly deluxe spirit that presents strong and varied flavors.
