Homemade churros recipe

Churros are a classic Spanish dessert that has spread to many parts of the world over time. These crispy, deep-fried dough sticks sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon have been a popular street food in Spain and Latin America for centuries. The origin of churros is still debated—some believe that shepherds in Spain invented them as a simple bread substitute, while others point out that they originated in China and were brought to Europe by Portuguese sailors.

Regardless of their origins, churros are now a beloved symbol of Spanish and Latin American food culture. They are often enjoyed for breakfast or as a sweet snack, traditionally served with a hot cup of thick chocolate for dipping. The combination of crispy dough and rich chocolate is irresistible and has made churros a favorite around the world.

Deep frying:

  • Fry the churros in the oil for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Place them on kitchen paper and immediately toss them in a mixture of sugar and cinnamon.

How to make chocolate dip:

  • Finely chop the chocolate.

  • Pour the hot cream over the chocolate and leave to stand for 1 minute.
  • Stir until you have a smooth and shiny chocolate sauce. Add a little sugar to taste, if desired.

Serving:
