Chipotle chili dried 1 kg.

A chipotle starts its life as a jalapeño and after it is dried it becomes a chipotle. You can use it in adobo sauce, stews and salsas. If you use it in a stew, you can remove the chipotle when you think the dish has the right strength. See our selection of chipotle chili here.

Mexican Heart sells dried Mexican chipotle, which is a perfect ingredient for stews that require the characteristic Mexican spice.

Description

Jalapeños and Chipotle Chili

In its entirety, chipotle chili is dried and smoked jalapeños. This gives chipotle chili a great flavor that can be used in many dishes to add strength and smoke. Chipotle is often used in marinades as adobo and often in conjunction with ancho chili. Together, these chilies add an exquisite flavor to any marinade. If you want the same sweet and smoky flavor, but with less of the heat, we highly recommend ancho chili.

The origin of Chipotle

The technique used to smoke jalapeños can be traced back to the earliest food preservation techniques used, even before the Aztecs, in central Mexico and further up through Central America. The name comes from the Nahuatl word chīlpoctli, meaning “smoked chili”. It is believed that this type of chili was discovered by Christopher Columbus on his epoch-making voyage to the New World, and subsequently brought back to Spain, from where it was spread across the European continent. The self-preserving effect of the chili enabled the smoked chili to survive the long journey across several oceans. It is precisely the technique of smoking chili that allows the chili to be stored for a long time.
